How many times have you missed a call on your phone, but when you retrieve the details, it’s a cell phone number that you have no idea who it belongs to?

Curiosity gets the better of you and you’d really like to know who called you, but you’re not too sure about just calling the number in case it’s someone you really don’t want to talk to. A reverse cell phone lookup can often help to solve the problem.

With a reverse cell phone lookup, all you need to do is type in the cell phone number that you?ve missed the call from. The reverse phone lookup service will then search through it?s database of millions of cell phone numbers and provide you with the details of who that particular cell phone number belongs too ? their name and address.

The hardest part of doing a reverse cell phone lookup, is working out which service to use. From personal experience though, I wouldn’t go with one of the companies that claims to offer a free reverse cell phone lookup.

This, however, isn’t true - a free number search on landline phones can be done, but not for cell numbers. Some sites offering a free reverse cell phone lookup gain their information by “decoding” cell phone numbers to get some very basic, and often inaccurate, information on the carrier and phone location. Other allegedly free sites let you search for the cell number, and then tell you that you need to pay to see the results - not exactly free.

The information for landline phone numbers (owner’s name & address) is freely accessible to the general public, so it’s quite easy for someone to develop a free reverse phone directory. Information for cell phone numbers is a little more closely guarded by the phone companies and is not so easy to obtain.

To access accurate details on cell phone numbers, a company needs to invest considerable time and money in obtaining and collating the data. If you think about how long it would take to compile a database containing information on millions of numbers, you’ll understand what I’m talking about!

Even amongst the paid reverse cell phone lookup services though, there is a wide variation in the quality of what they have to offer. Some companies have far superior and larger databases of cell numbers than others, while a few (not very reputable ones) will still try and make you pay for a search, even if they don’t have the cell number you want!

Luckily though, there’s only a small handful that try to get away with this. There are many excellent reverse cell phone lookup services that can provide you with all the accurate information you need on a number. You just need to know where to look to make sure you don’t get scammed.
