Unlike some portable water filters, the faucet and which have a direct connection, the under the counter water filters are directly attached to the plumbing under the counter. An under the counter water filter remains out of sight and does not have to be turned off or on, even as it provides a constant supply of clean water.
However, as compared to the water filters that are attached to taps, the installation work required for under the counter water filters is somewhat more. The cold water tap and main water tap have to be connected to the under the counter water filter through a feed line, even as there is no requirement for a separate drain line. All the parts that are required for the installation of an under the counter water filter, along with all the relevant instructions are usually supplied along with the filter system.
Becuase of the transparent operation of the under the counter filter system and its being quite unobtrusive, in addition to the space that it helps save on the counter, after installation, it is preferred by many people. In order to install it, a plumber may be called upon or some homeowners may decide to install it on their own, usually within a period of time that does not exceed 1 hour.
Periodically, the cartridge of an under the counter water filter has to be replaced, just like other systems for the filtration of water. It is rather easy to replace the cartridge. A simple set of tasks have to be performed, once the under the counter water filter has been fitted under the sink. The cover generally has to be replaced, after removing the cartridge installed and replacing it with a new one, after unscrewing the cover.
While installing an under the counter water filter system, the warm and cold pipes can be identified distinctly by touching these. The hot tap may be kept running for a couple of minutes so that the process of identification becomes easy, if immediate location of the pipe being looked for is difficult. For installation, identification of the pipe through which cold water is being fed to the tap is necessary, by looking under the sink.
The nut at the base has to be tightened after the clamp has been fitted over the mounting block and the pipe. Taking into account the pipe’s diameter, the appropriate side has to be selected, while setting the small mounting block of the clamp on to the pipe. Tubing is attached to the device resembling a small valve, known as saddle valve. The saddle valve clamping device has to be installed on a section of the pipe, after making sure that there is no obstruction or corrosion.
A bucket or another receptacle has then to be used to place the tube’s red end in. The T-bar handle then has to be turned fully in the clockwise direction, so as to pierce the copper pipe. Utilizing the screws that are supplied along with the system, at a location that is suitable, the cabinet has to be mounted with the filter’s housing bracket. After that, the housing of the filter has to be installed with its cartridge. The cartridge may have to be screwed in to the housing or simply be placed in the suitable fashion. The bracket then has to be mounted with the re-assembled housing of the filter.
The water flows to the tap, through the filter housing, from the red tube, after the T-bar of the saddle valve is turned anti-clockwise. The under the counter water filter’s housing’s output side is connected to the blue tube from the tap. Installation of the tap and the tubing related to it precedes that, along with the connection of the red tube in the bucket with the input side of the filter housing. The drinking water tap or the faucet for the under the counter water filter system is installed, after drilling a hole in the sink or worktop, at a location that is appropriate.
